How the Volume Spike Indicator Works

Unusual Volume & Market Participation

A volume spike measures unusual market participation, not direction by itself. It flags when trading activity is significantly higher than a recent baseline — often the first sign that something meaningful may be happening in a market.

Current Volume vs Average Volume

This screener compares current volume with a recent average volume baseline. Large deviations often reflect stronger participation, institutional activity, or event-driven flows.

What is Volume Spike Ratio?

Spike Ratio compares current trading volume with its recent average. A ratio of 2.0 means current volume is approximately twice the reference volume; 3.0 indicates roughly three times normal activity.

Volume Spike + Price Direction

A positive price change alongside unusually high volume may indicate increased buying participation, while a negative price change with elevated volume may indicate stronger selling pressure. Volume alone does not determine direction.

LONG / SHORT Interpretation

Directional LONG or SHORT classifications require confirmation from accompanying price action. Long setups often appear when volume surges while price pushes higher. Short setups often appear when volume surges while price breaks lower.

Multi-Timeframe Confirmation (15m, 1h, 4h, 1d)

Lower timeframes help identify early volume surges; higher timeframes provide regime context. A robust volume-spike workflow often confirms the setup across at least two timeframes.

Research Workflow: Filter → Screen → Validate

Combine volume spike with the indicator filter and the acciones y etfs screener. Validate macro context using market status, compare candidates using Compare, and cross-check VWAP Screener, Momentum Screener, MACD Screener, RSI Screener, ADX Screener, and Supertrend.

Volume Spike FAQ

A volume spike is unusually high trading volume compared to a recent average. It signals strong market participation — not direction by itself.

Spike Ratio compares current volume with its recent average. 2.0 ≈ twice normal activity; 3.0 ≈ three times normal activity.

When current volume rises meaningfully above a recent reference average, the screener flags an unusual spike. Directional LONG or SHORT labels depend on accompanying price change.

Not automatically. A volume spike measures unusual activity. Direction comes from the context of price movement — positive change with high volume may lean bullish; negative change may lean bearish.

LONG often aligns with volume surges and upward price movement. SHORT often aligns with volume surges and downward price movement. Confirm across multiple timeframes.

Use 15m for active intraday scanning, 1h and 4h for swing context, and daily for higher-timeframe bias.

Volume metrics refresh with live market data. The signal-detected column shows when the directional classification last changed.

Yes. Combine volume spike with the indicator filter and acciones y etfs screener, and use market status for macro context. VWAP, Momentum and MACD are especially useful for confirmation.

No garantizan dirección futura.
