How the ADX Cross Indicator Works

Trend Strength + Directional Bias

ADX measures trend strength, not trend direction. A +DI/−DI crossover provides directional context, while ADX helps evaluate the strength of that directional move. +DI and −DI indicate directional pressure; together they help separate strong trend conditions from weak range-bound markets.

What is DI Spread?

DI Spread represents the difference between +DI and −DI. Positive values indicate stronger positive directional pressure, while negative values indicate stronger negative directional pressure. Larger absolute differences generally indicate clearer directional separation.

ADX Levels

Lower ADX values generally indicate weaker or range-bound trend conditions, while higher ADX values indicate stronger trend environments. Typical reference zones (market-dependent): ADX < 20 often reflects weak trends; 20–25 a transition zone; > 25 stronger trends. Thresholds vary by market and workflow.

DI Cross Logic

Long setups often appear when +DI crosses above −DI with rising ADX. Short setups often appear when −DI crosses above +DI with rising ADX. A DI cross at low ADX carries less weight than a cross in a strong trend environment (e.g. ADX above 25).

Multi-Timeframe Confirmation (15m, 1h, 4h, 1d)

Use 15m/1h for timing and 4h/1d for regime confirmation. DI crosses aligned with higher timeframe trend strength are typically more reliable than isolated lower-timeframe crosses.

+DI and −DI Directional Indicators

+DI (positive directional indicator) reflects upward directional pressure; −DI (negative directional indicator) reflects downward pressure. When +DI is above −DI, bullish directional bias dominates; when −DI is above +DI, bearish bias dominates. ADX filters whether that separation occurs in a weak or strong trend context.

Research Workflow: Filter → Screen → Validate

Combine ADX Cross with the indicator filter and the 股票与 ETF screener. Validate macro context using market status, compare candidates using Compare, and cross-check RSI Screener, MACD Screener, Momentum Screener, Supertrend, Ichimoku Screener, VWAP Screener, Bollinger Bands, and Volume Spike Screener.

Key features:
  • ADX, +DI, −DI & DI Spread columns
  • Trend strength state (WEAK / TRENDING / STRONG)
  • Multi-timeframe screening (15m, 1h, 4h, 1d)
  • Live ADX Cross signal screening & market breadth

ADX Cross FAQ

ADX (Average Directional Index) measures trend strength, not trend direction. Higher ADX generally indicates stronger trend conditions; lower ADX often reflects weak or range-bound markets.

+DI (positive directional indicator) reflects upward directional pressure. −DI (negative directional indicator) reflects downward pressure. Their relative levels and crossovers provide directional context that ADX alone does not show.

A DI crossover occurs when +DI crosses above −DI (often interpreted as bullish directional shift) or −DI crosses above +DI (bearish shift). Many traders require rising ADX to filter low-quality crosses in weak trend environments.

DI Spread is the difference between +DI and −DI. Positive spread favors +DI (bullish directional pressure); negative spread favors −DI. Larger absolute values indicate clearer directional separation.

ADX above roughly 25 is often associated with stronger trends; 20–25 can be transitional; below 20 often reflects weak or ranging conditions. Exact thresholds depend on the market and your workflow.

No — ADX measures trend strength only, not direction. Direction comes from +DI and −DI: +DI above −DI suggests bullish directional pressure; −DI above +DI suggests bearish pressure.

Use 15m for active intraday scanning, 1h and 4h for swing context, and daily for higher-timeframe bias. Confirm DI crosses across at least two timeframes when possible.

ADX, +DI, −DI and signal counts refresh with live market data. The Signal detected column shows when the directional classification last changed — not when the page was loaded.

Yes. Combine ADX Cross with the indicator filter and 股票与 ETF screener, and use market status for macro context. RSI, MACD, Momentum, Supertrend and Ichimoku are especially useful for confirmation.
