MACD (Moving Average Convergence Divergence) is built from the difference between a fast and a slow EMA (commonly 12 and 26). A signal line (commonly the 9 EMA of MACD) is used to identify crossovers. The histogram visualizes the distance between MACD and signal line, which helps traders see acceleration or deceleration in momentum.
Long signals often appear when the MACD line crosses above the signal line and momentum is improving. Short signals often appear when the MACD line crosses below the signal line. In crypto, crossovers are stronger when they align with higher-timeframe trend context and are confirmed by other indicators.
Lower timeframes (15m, 1h) capture early momentum shifts, while higher timeframes (4h, 1d) reduce noise and help confirm the regime. A professional MACD strategy typically requires alignment across at least two timeframes before taking larger risk.
For higher-quality setups, combine MACD with the indicator filter and the market screener. Validate market context using market status, and compare candidates via Compare. For trend regime confirmation, cross-check Supertrend, RTA, and RSI.
