How the Supertrend Indicator Works

ATR-Based Trend Bands

The Supertrend indicator combines Average True Range (ATR) with price action to create dynamic trend-following bands. Because ATR adapts to volatility, Supertrend stays closer to price in quiet markets and widens when volatility expands.

Upper Band and Lower Band

The upper band represents the bearish Supertrend boundary — when price trades below it, trend structure is typically bearish. The lower band represents the bullish boundary. Both bands shift as ATR and price change, so they reflect current volatility rather than fixed levels.

Supertrend LONG vs SHORT Signals

LONG conditions typically occur when price moves above the active Supertrend level and trend structure turns bullish. SHORT conditions typically occur when price moves below the active level and structure turns bearish. These are trend-context signals — not guaranteed entries or exits.

ATR and Volatility

Supertrend uses ATR to scale band distance to market volatility. Higher ATR widens the bands (fewer flips, more room for trend); lower ATR tightens them (more responsive, but more noise in choppy conditions).

Multi-Timeframe Confirmation (15m, 1h, 4h, 1d)

15m captures short-term / entry context. 1h adds session-level confirmation. 4h supports swing / medium-term bias. 1d reflects broader regime. Aligning direction across timeframes can improve context — but multi-timeframe agreement is not automatically profitable.

How to Read This Supertrend Screener

Start with the Symbol column to pick an asset, then read the Signal (LONG or SHORT) for the active timeframe. Check ATR for current volatility context — wider ATR usually means more distance between price and the Supertrend line.

Compare Upper Band and Lower Band to see both Supertrend boundaries; the active trend uses one side as the relevant line. The Supertrend Value column shows the active Supertrend level for that signal.

Use the overview cards and market breadth summary for macro context, then switch timeframes (15m → 1h → 4h → 1d) to confirm whether short-term signals align with higher-timeframe structure before acting.
